State Department official says Secretary Blinken warned China about hacking.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese Minister Wang Yi in Indonesia. Secretary Blinken, in Jakarta for ASEAN meetings, raised concerns about a recent breach of U.S. government sites.
Hackers based in China breached the email accounts of around two dozen organizations, including some within U.S. government agencies. According to statements from Microsoft and the White House, the Chinese spy campaign was aimed at securing sensitive information. An investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of the hack attacks.
A state department official said that Secretary Blinken “made clear that any action that targets U.S. government, U.S. companies, American citizens, is of deep concern to us and that we will take appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable.”
